The 60 Second Tent

The label stated: set's up in 60 seconds. I had never seen a tent set up in 60 seconds, so I was intrigued and a little wary. This was last weekend. I was kayak camping with my daughter and one of her friends on Keg Island. I had packed two tents, my trusty, though worn Eureka Tetragon 7, and a new five man tent my wife had picked up at Costco. When it comes to the brand, I'll hold off on naming names. This outdoor gear manufacturer has been around quite a while and really made a name for themselves with their cook stoves. This was my first go round with one of their tents. The poles were on the interior and retracted by depressing a small button and sliding them out. That was easy enough, but then one of the poles popped out of it's housing at the top of tent. I managed to re-insert the pole, though it was not completely locked in place. Soon enough it popped back out of place tilting one side of the tent at a crazy angle. I re-inserted it, and as soon as the wind kicked up it popped right back out of place again. Frustrated, I finally gave up trying to lock it into place and slid it under another pole, where it stayed in place the rest of the night. The set up was in fact pretty easy, though it certainly took more than 60 seconds. It was the maintenance after set up that was the real issue. But that wasn't advertised on the label.
