Quality over Quantity

Quality over Quantity. That's what was written on the dry erase board at the YMCA Pool.  I would stare at every time I did a kick set during my work out. It's a well worn phrase, approaching cliche with over use. did get me thinking, so perhaps, at least personally, it still has some worth. Here in Southeastern, North Carolina, quality over quantity would seem to be a value that many a resident holds dear. We may not have all the ameninties, culture, or culinary options of a larger metropolitan area, but we do have beautiful beaches, rivers, a historic downtown, and less traffic. But the times they are a changing, and the real estate developers operate under more of the quantity over quality credo. Many of the newcomers to Wilmington, talk about moving here for the quality of life. Many of these recent transplants re-locate here not for a job, but for a life style. Presumbably, life is better here then where ever it is they left, be it because of cost of living, climate, or some other reason. I was chatting recently with a neighbor of mine, a recent transplant from the D.C. area.  Invaribly, we got on the topic of traffic. While we both agreed that traffic could be bad in Wilmington, it was nothing compared to Washington D.C., or say, Atlanta. He'd been living here for about three years, and loved the area. He laughed nervously, and said even in the time he's been here he's seen quite a change in Southeastern, NC. He followed that up by saying he hoped with the growth, that we could maintain quality of life. Yeah, I agreed, I'll take quality over quantity any time.
