Dog Days

The dog days of summer have not been too doggy after all. July eased gently into August with cooler temps and lower humidity. My YMCA Camp Hanes Coastal Camp group arrived at River Road Park on Sunday afternoon to unseasonably pleasant temperatures. I had suggested that this group might want to pack portable, battery operated fans to making island camping a tad bit more comfortable. As it turned out, they weren't even needed. While we have had some hot days, this summer has been a fairly temperate one. The Atlantic has yet to produce any storms of consequence, but we are entering the heart of hurricane season. August will inevitably heat up again, which is to be expected. This week however, has been a nice reprieve from the heat. Are we currently experiencing the calm before the storm? We'll just have to wait and see what Mother Nature dishes up.
